The third story for my digital photojournalism course was about character and where else could you find a large variety of character with the added bonus of being cute and having soft fur to pet? One place is an animal shelter so I visited our local animal shelter. It was a challenge given the space to work in but I was able to get images that revealed the overall feel of the organization in regards to how the animals are kept in confinement and a feel for the individual character of each of these animals. Mouse over the pictures to see the captions that give some details about each animal.
Cute and Furry Inmates

The first picture on the left below is the corridor leading to the animal pens inside the Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center, for stray, rescue and owner surrendered cats and dogs, in Auburn Hills, Mich., as captured on Mar. 25, 2014.The first room on the right is a row of cats in cages and the first room on the left is called Kitty City, for cats to get exercise in. The rest of the rooms house dogs and the rooms are referenced as rows by the letters hanging on the entry doors. Each row contains animal cages stacked two high and every cage has a sheet of paper with the animal's information on it either in green ink which means you can take the animal out of the cage and go for a walk or red ink which means the animal has not been cleared with the veterinarian so it should not leave its cage.
Trustees work with the dogs daily to keep them clean and rotate them to outdoor crates to get fresh air, exercise and potty breaks for some time during the day said Shelly Gray, the kennel leader. There were dogs crates being cleaned out and bedding exchanged during my visit and loads of bedding being laundered.
